I wish linux was bit more smalltalk like

I hate the way that Gtk applications spew forth debugging information to standard error. Much better would be if every application wrote log files to a log object and the "system" make it easy to open a window containing the log. Then settings would control how long the log files are kept.

Somehow the shell is pretty useful, but well smalltalk would have made for a much better language because it already defines an argument passing environment. Also bash is a rather spastic language.

Of course smalltalk lacks many things that linux provides, probably the central one being access control. Being able to say for instance that my web browser runs with user privileges rather than root privileges.
